Ex-MI5 Agent Sues Newspaper for Naming him

An ex-MI5 agent is suing London Newspaper the Evening Standard. Lawyers representing him claim, that by revealing his identity, the paper has placed his life in jeopardy.

The agent has also threatened another British newspaper, the Guardian, with a High Court injunction if it re-publishes his identity. This is despite the fact that  legal moves have failed to force  bloggers and websites to remove full copies of the original Standard article from their pages.

Lawyers acting for the agent  deny the information is already in the public domain. What makes this case  interesting is that, while seeking to repress  information, the agent is simultaneously suing his former employers for freedom of speech as he wishes to publish his memoirs.
